Powerhead removal and subsequent install is a success. All issues with this motor have been addressed and she's running beautifully. Starts right up, pumps water, idles great, specs look good. Very happy. Thanks to Jerry.
I put a wire on to connect the shift rods and I wrapped it above and below the coupler so that the shift rods have no choice but to move in unison. Works great.
I raised the idle a little bit and it fixed the overheat issue. I'm idling at 1100 rpm in neutral and 800 in forward idle. I also ran some powertune through it to get some carbon out of it and she seemed to like that. She's running better than ever.
Well the overheat alarm went off again today. It only overheats at idle or low speed. Maybe I've got the idle set too low and it's not producing enough pressure to pump enough water. It's idling at about 800 rpms now. It's a brand new water pump assembly, water tube seal, and thermostat. What...
@Jerryjerry05 i took the boat out today.. she started and idled great. But she gets stuck in reverse. It seems to be an issue with the lower shift rod. It's gets stuck in the up position (which is reverse) and won't go back down on its own like it should. What would cause this and how to fix? I...
Yes this issue was with the motor running. The shift rod lever under the bottom carb is hitting the tower linkage and not allowing it to go all the way full throttle in reverse. I have to force it a little but. I was reading the manual and it says that the shift rod lever and tower linkage...
I have a hard time shifting into reverse. I hit a spot where I have to force it a little bit.
Do I adjust the shift rod under the carbs? The rod needs to rise about 1/4 inch or so. Do I tighten the double nuts... or loosen them?
@Jerryjerry05 I found what you wrote in an older thread...
I dropped the lower unit and installed a new OEM pump kit. The one I purchased before was chinese amazon crap and it didn't work. Lesson learned the hard way. The OEM kit worked perfectly. Problem solved.
I installed a tell tale on my 1990 force 120 recently. I've replaced impeller, impeller housing, all gaskets and seals, thermostat, and water tube seal and grommet at the powerhead end. Still no water coming from tell tale and the overheat alarm is going off.
My only guess is that the collar...
