    New Problems Older Motor

1st trip out on the Chesapeake Bay and.motor settled in perfectly. Very crisp and responsive and idle did settle out., compared to initial start up. Only thing left to install is the new silencer cover gasket and need to modify a bit. There are dovetails for alignment around the perimeter that...

All back together and fired right up! Sounds a little fast and will have to adjust idle, ect, but very happy.

    New Problems Older Motor

Okay, I see now there was nothing on any of the gaskets surfaces when I pulled apart. Unfortunately I have not found a smoking gun. Except for the bowls being bone dry. Everything is really clean and great shape. I did notice some cracking on the fuel hoses, but I pulling and yanking could have...

Yes gasket sealant is not for use during carb reassembly. Carb to manifold. Gasket dressing, not to be confused with gasket maker or rtv.

    New Problems Older Motor

Tee was clear and ended up running to my local BRP/Evinrude/Johnson parts dealer about an hour away. It did cost more than online, but I have them it in my hand today, not 5 days from now and know I have the right OEM parts. I purchased (2) 439076 carb rebuild kits, (2) 386573 silencer to carb...

    New Problems Older Motor

Droid thanks for response. I am further into it now. Motor starts on starter fluid. I have fuel in front of and behind fuel pump to carburators. No fuel came out when I open either carburator bowl plugs on each carb. I'm guessing something is wrong with float, or needle valve or a serious...

Also, running fine to nothing, I'm finding it hard to think it is the carburators, but not counting that out. Pulling the line to the carbs from the pump should tell me something. Ran out of light, but hope to get back to it tomorrow.

Okay, I have spark on all 4 cylinders and compression is 125psi across all 4 cylinders. So far so good. But when I pulled the plugs , I noticed one was fouled and black while the others were fairly decent. More importantly, I am not smelling gas after after dry firing while compression testing...

    New Problems Older Motor

I have a '76 Evinrude 85hp v4 that I've been very happy with. New coils, wires, plugs, and fuel pump, working great for two years. Last trip out 2 weeks ago and has ran great until this morning. I could not get it start and also could not get my kicker to start. First time. I swapped fuel...

I guess at this point I am considering replacing the control box along with the cables. Call me simple, but wondering why the single lever, dual action instead of dual lever single action. It just seems like it would be more straight forward and less mechanically problematic. Put it in gear and...

As i said the motor side is post 1979, unless the black barrel is removable and can be reinstalled on the bare cable end. I do not see a slot or any way to remove it and reinstall though. Again not familiar with this type of cabling, so if im missing something, please let me know. It appears to...

    1976 Evinrude 85hp 85693G

My question now is type of cable. The motor side is definitely post 1979. I did video underneath the console and the back side of control box. Unfortunately, I can not tell the type of end. All I can see is a brass rod/tube that terminates in a black plastic block on the one side. Im thinking...

Thanks. That helped immensely. I had seen a dual lever, but did not find any single until I searched "morse control box".

Also, looking at adapter or end styles, it appears to be post 1979 style with the 4" long black barrel on the motor side and thin silver tongue lever side. I can not seem to find an example of the top mount console control lever style I have. There are a lot of variations to figure out. Luckily...

Im up in the air on that. The cable that runs to the throttle linkage looks to have been replaced at some point and definitely newer than cable running to transmission linkage. I think I ve found them, 33 or 3300 series. Still trying to work out 12ft., 13ft., or 14ft.
