    Starting issue 1983 90hp V4

Droid, Checked that all out. No rodents or anything in there. Racer, Checked out the starter, it is all good. (per the Johnson manual) Load tested the battery. It is on the low end of 9.2 volts when loaded at 78 degrees. So, battery is going to be replaced. I think I need to let you know that...

    Starting issue 1983 90hp V4

Ok just did compression test. Digital gauge Top left - 112.9 bottom left - 112.6 Top right - 113.3 Bottom right - 115.1 Did the compression test 2 times. Numbers where within .3 of the original readings I stated above. Those seem to be pretty good reading for an older motor. Or am I mistaken...

    Starting issue 1983 90hp V4

So, need a little help. Motor runs great. But I have found out that after running for a little bit (20 plus minutes) and sitting for a bit. The motor is hard to start. Primed the engine etc. pushing key in and still hard to start. I have found out that if I trim up the motor it starts great...

    Tachometer inop after 70hp 3 cylinder to 90hp V4

Ok, swap complete. Motor runs great. 90hp V4 really woke up my little 16ft boat. But would like to get the tach working again. Old motor was a 1983 Johnson 70hp 3 cylinder. New motor is a '87 Johnson 90hp V4. Tach worked great with the 70. But not with the 90, Is there something that needs to...

    1983 johnson 70hp to 1987 90hp v4 swap question

Swap is done. Lower unit done. No spark situation completed. Carbs redone. Engine fired up perfectly. Took the boat for its initial run this afternoon. I would have to say that the 90 really woke up this boat. Not a massive power increase. But I think that this boat really needed this swap...

90 hp V4 Lower Unit Full of Water internally (not in gear case oil)

Matching up all the parts. I found that there was one o-ring missing from behind the impeller cup. Reason for me doing the water pump is it was not squirting water very well at all. If anything, it was just drippling out. Could this be the issue?

90 hp V4 Lower Unit Full of Water internally (not in gear case oil)

Well, I finally got going after the water pump on my 90hp. Remove the lower unit. Came apart really nice, piece of cake. I found that the unit has water pretty much every where. Watching videos etc on youtube. Most of the ones I see are fairly clean. The gear case oil has no water (zero) So...

    Shortened Pee hose?

Well, got the motor running. Fired right up after sitting for approx 3 years. Very little tell-tale water (peeing) So I have decided to do the water pump. Not sure when it has been done last. But, this is a new motor to me. So might as well get it done before putting it on the boat. I think I...

    Shortened Pee hose?

Ok been doing some digging into the v4 90hp Johnson I plan on swapping onto my 16ft SPL Sunbird. Has good compression (115 in all cylinder) Has good spark. So looking good so far. My question is this. The previous owner has shorted the pee hose dramatically. It is maybe 4" now and goes right...
