Finding information on my mysterious Evinrude 4hp...?!?

Hello,

Just bought a boat with an Evinrude 4hp motor.
As displayed on sticker:
Mod. No. CE4BRCCS
SER. No. C 7227519

I have a few issues with it, but while searching the web, can't find anything relating to it. Google search with the model number only results in one link of a post on this forum but dating back to 2006...!!

Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!

Issues I'm having:
how do you take the cover off ?? (integrated gas tank, not obvious how to take the cover off...??)
No water shooting from motor while running (reason I need to take the cover off...!!)

A 1988 model -----First thing is a few bolts to remove lower unit to inspect impeller.------No need to remove cover.-----Water must be above impeller in a test bucket.

Thanks, will do. Motor was in a compost bin with water about 6 inches below the engine itself...! Can you tell me where I can find information on this motor ??

I doo not believe there is anything mysterious about this motor.----Information ?----What information ??----Posting pictures of your motor will help.

Mysterious since I couldn't find anything through Google with the model number (usually find online manuals, many forum posts, etc.). With this one, only a singular post almost 20 years old and absolutely nothing else... hence the mysteriousness...! And sure, will post some pictures !

Here are some pictures of my motor. Heard that the 8 holes on the back of the leg might be where the water from the cooling system might come out, mixed with the exhaust. Was wondering why there wasn't any clear water flow coming out from the engine compartiment while it was running today (in a barrel of water) as I've seen on most of my past outboard motors.

You need to change the impeller FIRST. These engines will only have a noticeable mist from the holes you mention. Make sure the holes are not clogged.

Thanks - I'm a bit of a newbie... can you tell me (or show me) where the impeller is or how to access it ? Thanks.

Marine engine.com has excellent diagrams on their website. As your engine is shiftless it is only a matter of removing the lower unit bolts and removing the unit. Be careful not to break the bolts. Aerokroil penetrates very well. There are videos on the internet that can help. Really simple repair. Be sure to clean/clear out the water passages. After you replace the impeller you should see water misting and drizzling out of the holes you mentioned. This engine does not have a thermostat. If I can help you further please let me know. Good luck and enjoy your engine
