1997 BF45 power trim cylinder end cap part number

Noticed the power trim cylinder end cap leaking, already took the end cap off, but cannot find the part number from partstree. I know the whole power trim/tilt is 56000-ZV5-822ZA. Most ebay and amazon has end cap for HONDA 90-250HP, are they same for 45hp?

Thanks!

Hi,

I've never worked on a 45 hp Honda so please keep that in mind and know that this isn't an answer to the problem but more a question. If I'm off the mark here, I apologize.

I've attached the 97 45hp power trim components page for reference.

I don't see an "end cap" or "Cap, end", reference on that page so I don't know if this is any help.

Things on that page that seem like they could be called "end caps"...at least to me... are:
Item 1
Item 19
Item 51
There's no reference under the "description" column for item 51 (thus, no part name and no part number) so I'm wondering if that's the part you're looking for?

If so, is it damaged in some way? I ask because it should be sealed with an oring or seal of some sort, item 53, which also isn't listed in the description column but could possibly be found through a hydraulic repair or specialty shop.

Again, if this is off the mark for what you're looking for, I apologize. Just trying to help.

Good luck.

Yes, item 51 is the end cap I am looking for. It has an oring in the outside, and plastic bushing inside, the plastic bushing is leaking for me. The measurement of this ebay item seems match mine, but said for Honda 90 to 250hp.

Actually it is not item51. This end cap I am looking for is piston 13. The middle cylinder. No reference for that, and that end cap is No 1 leaking point. Take me a while to get it off, even ordered a special tool which did not work.

Well, I could be wrong....often am...
...but in my opinion, that ebay part looks much different than item 51 in the link I sent you.

Does your leaking cap have a solid head with a hex socket for an Allen wrench?

The ebay part in your attachment looks like the seal bushing for the pushrod piston that the shaft slides through. Not a cap at all. See item 13 in the link I sent. Part number 56120-ZV5-822. It's the whole assembly...pushrod with seal bushing.
Sadly, no longer available.

BUT...
...You might still be able to take that to a specialty hydraulic supplier or repair shop and they might be able to help you get it sealed properly. Hopefully there are places like that near where you live.

There's SO MUCH of that stuff those guys see every day with farm, construction and manufacturing equipment they might have what you need on the shelf.

Probably the only real way to know if the ebay part would work would be to closely compare measurements with yours or just pop for the $40 or so and buy and have it shipped. If they have a return policy you might get your money back if you think it's worth the hassle.

I think that first though, I would hand carry that part to my favorite hydraulic problem solver...Top Line or Orings &.Things here in Southern California and see if they could bail me out.

Good luck.

Yeah, I was answering you when you provided more info.

My concern with the ebay part is:

1. The shaft diameter for larger outboard trims might not be the same.
2. The outer thread diameter of the seal bushing may be different.

Or both.

See if the ebay seller will provide you with those measurements. If they're the same as yours then it might be worth a try.

One positive I see is that those parts look similar to yours and the function is the same. The fact that Honda used the ebay part across such a wide amount of models could also indicate that it might work.

Good luck and hoping you report back with a success post.

Did your "special tool" (pin spanner) not fit?
I've had to make stuff like that before when I couldn't find the right tool.
But if the one you bought fits, you might still be able to use it for tightening the bushing when going back together.
Some of that stuff from Harbor Freight (China) is just not heavy duty enough for breaking loose something that's been on there for 30 years.

You might even need to to give it a tap or two with pin punch and hammer to re-tighten it. But be gentle if you do!

I got this took kit from Amazon. The end cap hole is 4mm, The MT0004 don't fit when pins screwed in, I try to align the wrench first with two pin and screw the third pin in, kind of get in but don't fit well, cannot go down all the way. I think I need the MT0006 wrench, the one in the middle of picture, but that one is closed, I cannot get into piston. I just used a puncher and hammer to get end cap loose, it is not too bad.
Ordered an end cap from Amazon. Amazon has good return policy if it don't fit.

Well, you could open that closed wrench by sawing out the closed end if you needed to.

I hope your Amazon cap fits ok. It's amazing that you found one there. Let us know how it works out.

I cannot. I need get top end cap off to pull piston out of housing, then I can access the lock nut on bottom side.
I think bigger boat normally has one tilt piston, two trim piston. My. Bf45 only has tilt piston, but it use same end cap of bigger boat’s trim end cap. And you can access trim end cap from top, that is why that MT00006 from tool kit is closed with 4 pin. But I cannot my BF45 tilt end cap from top.
