2004 Mercury 50 2 Stroke WOT RPM

The guy at the boat shop told me that my 2004 Mercury, 2 stroke had an wot rpm range of 5500 to 5800. The sticker on the motor clearly states 5500. Can anyone clear this up?

I'd trust Mercury Marine & their placard over dealer hearsay.
