    Ethanol free with Star-Tron at the end of the season is what I'm doing. If I know it's not going to set more than a month, then I feel okay using ethanol tainted fuel - but I use Star-Tron in everything.

    I wouldn't think draining the carbs would be enough with ethanol tainted fuel. I'm thinking purging the fuel lines and filter would also be necessary. Myself, I have access to ethanol free fuel.

    I'll do a compression test and then check the spark with a 3/8" gap spark tester tomorrow. Then I'll remove the old fuel lines and see if I can run fresh fuel lines to the carburetor and see if it'll start.

    I tried uploading pictures. It's in decent shape and the wiring looks clean and no corrosion. The cowl decals are still nice bright colors.

    Assuming it has good compression. Assuming it runs and has a good lower unit. Is it worth keeping? It looks like parts are a little hard to come by than my Johnson.

    But if you do decide to get one of those stainless steel slip over ones, be aware that the dissimilar metals could create corrosion on your lower unit - especially in saltwater.

    To assure myself, I tried 4 different ones. 2 had me at 90, 2 had me at 120.

    And it doesn't matter if it's a brand new compression tester, you need one with a Schrader valve at the piece that screws into the spark plug hole.

    You might go to Napa Auto Parts, AutoZone, any local parts store and ask them about the "Borrow a Tool" program. My compression tester was reading 90psi. I borrowed one from a couple stores and I got 120 with theirs. .

    I was suggested to put your hand in front of the carburetors and see if gas is spitting back at you. . Another suggestion was to take them out and see if you can see light between the fins and the surface they rest against.

    One thing I try to do is take lots of pictures before and as I take things apart. I try to do it before I make any adjustments also. . It has saved me many times.
