    Have you physically separated the lead from the coil? Try it and see. You have nothing to lose. There are no spare replacement wires from Yamaha. It might be possible to buy a non Yamaha wire from an auto parts store that will work.

    Was Mercury saying that battery power from the key switch is powering the high pressure electric pump? That is not making sense to moi. If a relay grounds the pump, in lieu of the ECU, how will the ground be terminated if the motor stops running?

    In a Yamaha configuration a relay provides battery power to the electric high pressure fuel pump. The ECU then switches the ground on and off to run or stop the fuel pump. I suspect the Mercury is one and the same.
