Hello, I replaced the water pump impeller on my outboard. Easy part…. When the lower unit separated the output shaft came out of the upper unit but the shift linkage came out of the lower unit. The shift linkage has a couple offset bends to get it near its hole which is nearly impossible to reassemble. I got it in there once but the engine was stuck in forward. There is a pretty good video on you tube that shows the rebuild but it shows the shift linkage remaining in the lower unit. My shift linkage is not coming out of the upper unit without more disassembly. What am I doing wrong? Appreciate any advice. Thanks.
