My trim gauge was not working on my 2016 Mercury 4 stroke 115hp engine. The trim worked just fine to move the engine up and down, but no reading on the gauge. So I did some detective work today and it got me into a heap of trouble! I found what I think was the end of the trim gauge harness where it screwed into the engine. I took it off to see if maybe something was corroded but did not see anything, so I put it back on. I am guessing that even though wires were atteched to this round plastic tab, it was bolted on just to secure it. But, when I went to trim the engine full up so I could move it out of my barn and raise up the skeg, it would only go so high, no more. It seemed to go all the way down, but no longer full up. What in the world did I do by taking this plastic piece off and reinstalling it. Did I somehow change the calibration? I also noticed that now, when I use the throttle trim up/down button, the trim gauge goes crazy, running from full up to full down! Yikes...Mercury is retrograding for sure today. Any ideas?? Right now, I cant move the engine full trim up, only down.
