120hp V4 new lower unit

I have gotten a lot of advice and it's all been appreciated. I put a new lower unit on the motor yesterday and started it up today and everything seems to be working fine except I have NO neutral, it's in gear (forward) and no reverse. It started in what I thought was new neutral, but the prop was spinning. When I put the unit in, I had the shift lever in reverse which I was told was the way to install it, any ideas?

Did you set the correct shift height ?----Filled with oil ?-----And on many motors the prop will turn on muffs , even in neutral.----Has to do with the oil and the bearing setup.

Shift height is correct, fresh oil. I can't even put it in forward gear and when I try to put it in reverse the rpm's just increase. With the motor shut off I can't even spin the prop.

Model # of your motor ?---What shift rod measurement did you use ?----New SEI unit ?----Used OMC unit ?----Brand new Johnson unit ?

Remove lower unit and see if it shifts correctly.-----Did you install the shift rod ?-------Call SEI and see what they say.

Called SEI and they told me to start with disconnecting the shift cable and see if I could shift it manually. I never had an issue before, but I think it's just a matter of elimination. Then we will go from there.

Thanks for all the help, found the issue there's a rubber gromet in the lower cowling the had separated and turned the linkage and bound it against the power head. that rubber gromet is coming out it's probably been in there since 89. SEI told me about that and that had given them issues before. Thanks again for all the help.
