15 hp Evinrude gears

I own several 15's, but the last one I purchased had a set of gears in the foot that I've never seen before. This set of gears had a three fingered clutch dog, can I get some information on them.

Heavy duty set that can be ordered as replacement but was mainly used on the commerical units.

They started using those in the mid 1980's on the 9.9 / 15 models.----I can not recall a " commercial " 15 HP model.----These 3 lug gears are first shown in the parts book for the 1985 models.

thank you for the year to start looking at. we have these gears, i have found, in two of the five motors we own. it seems to me they have a short coming, in that they are so quick to engage, that they seems to remain in gear even when the shifter is in neutral. have you experience this as well?

I would look to make sure all your linkages are in good shape and the lower shift rod is in correctly. There is no shortcoming in those gears a thousands of those motors out there running correctly.

??---Where did you come up with the idea that this is a " short coming "-----Time to have a look at how your motor is set-up / adjusted.-----There is something wrong with your motor !
