Well I put shifter in N removed all bolts.
Trying to to drop lower end w/out any Luck
It’s like something is catching internally
Shifter puts itself into gear ?
Preventing l end from being removed?
Why?
What am I doing wrong ?
Thank you for your time,,,,,,Doug

Your engine is one of the last designs that it was necessary to remove the powerhead to disconnect the shiftshaft. Later designs had a 2 piece shiftshaft with a side access plate on the midsection to separate the gearcase. unbolt the powerhead. Lift it off, scrape the gasket surfaces on the powerhead and exhaust housing, replace the base gasket, unscrew the shiftshaft nut and drop the gearcase.

Well, you have one of the best engines ever created by OMC, if there is still gasoline and oil in the next 50 years, those engines will still be running and your grandchildren will enjoy them.

It is actually a simple job to remove the powerhead.---Bonus is that allows inspection of the seal assembly at the top of the driveshaft.----Some mock this set up.---I think it is brilliant as shift rod can not go out of adjustment..-------And there was never a side access plate on the 5.5 / 6 / 7.5 hp models
