1976 Evinrude 70673D Tell Tale Install Placement?

Hi, all. Back to working on our older boat with an Evinrude 70673D after winter storage. Doing some work that I'd planned to before and one of those is adding a tell tale. I know there's guides somewhere on the internet on where to drill and tap for the fitting, but I'm having a hard time getting a consistent answer of where and can't find good pictures showing it. I'd really love to see some that are top down, if anyone has those. I already have the water outlet that goes in the cowl and the plastic 90 degree elbow to put in the block, just need to know where.

Have you tested the overheat warning horn ?

Yep, warning horn works when grounded. And I know, I've read a few times on the forums that if that works, a tell tale isn't particularly needed, but I want to install it for peace of mind. Being able to look back and see the water stream right after startup sounds like a good thing to me with no downsides

This pic is from a 1978 70HP. You can see the 90* fitting for the telltale is tapped into the exhaust housing cover about even with the spark plug for the lower cylinder, about 1" in front of the rear bolt.

I haven't seen the tell tale down there before, only on top of the block or head. Is that a better spot for it?

No, from what I’ve gathered in this seemingly impossible quest is that having it down there can introduce air and create a bubble that causes a hot spot. So it’s better up top. But like you, I’m having a difficult time finding someone to say “drill here.” I also have a 70673D 1976 70hp and the best spot *seems* to be the flat right in front of the plug with the motor ID info on it. The water jacket for the top cylinder. I haven’t drilled it yet since I wanted verification, but it’s been impossible. I’m about ready to just rip the head cover off again so I can maybe see behind the thermostat into the water channel around the cylinder. The other spot I was wondering about is the bolstered area to the port side that the exhaust plates bolt to.
