1976 evinrude 85 hp power trim

on my power trim on the left piston housing there is a sending unit. it has broken off and the sending unit is unavailable. are there any alternatives? does it absolutely have to have it. can i just put a plug in it?

That's a sending unit for a gauge... Plug it.
