1984 mariner 40 hp.

Motor will fire but not start. When it does sound like it's going to start motor locks up and I have to free it up by hand. Any ideas? Thanks

Remove sparkplugs.----Use screw driver on each piston.----Turn flywheel and see of pistons move properly.-----Drain gear oil and look for metal bits.-----Sounds expensive to me.

Have done this and can hear the compression change
