First post here, and I’m hoping someone familiar with these older Yamahas can weigh in. My motor is a 1989 115 etld- that’s a 2-stroke v4 ‘precision blend’ and I’m chasing down an issue on my port side cylinders 2 and 4. Seemed like 4 wasn’t getting spark- no rpm drop when I pulled the wire, and number 2 just above it had a real weak rpm drop itself, compared to 1 and 3. I checked them out with a timing light and that’s where I discovered that above 1500 RPM the timing light fully went out on both the 2 and 4 cylinders- so no electricity was even going to the plugs at all above 1500 rpm. At idle, timing was consistent across all 4 cylinders.
Backstory: A year ago my boat partially sank on anchor in saltwater, the motor went part way under but I got the water out of the carbs and oiling system right away, did a bunch of work on it, but never got it running nice so I put it aside for winter. Compression is good. Carbs are good- I replaced them recently. My gas is good- got the water out. Basically I’ve gone through the gauntlet and just today made this discovery so now I’m wondering how to proceed to further diagnose or if this points to an obvious part failure and I can look to replace.
