1990 Yamaha 130 change the impeller myself(non-mechanic) or take to dealer?

is there a way to know ahead of time if the impeller is bad? doesn't seem to overheat but just a dribble or very weak stream out of pee hole on ear-muffs.
Thanks,
tom

Impellers are often neglected.-------They need to be replaced about every 5 years or so.----------------If you do not know how old yours is then you need a new one !

Thank you racerone. Good advise i will follow that, just wondered how hard it would be for a layperson to do themselves, as opposed to taking to a mechanic.

In the mean time i managed to correct the issue. i took off the piece of tubing that goes from the block to the peehole and blew it out with compressed air. Some kind of obstruction came flying out. Pees great now! So the impeller is probably fine for now but i will still plan on periodic inspection/replacement as you suggest.

Thanks again,
tom
