1991 115hp Evinrude Torque Specifications

I have a 1991 115hp Evinrude model #TE115TLEIE and I am changing the water pump and would like to know the torque specs for the 4 bolts 9/16 size that hold the lower unit on and also the trim tab bolt and the bolts under the trim tab. I know the water pump housing bolts torque are 60-84 foot pounds of torque but cannot find the other bolts I have described. Any help would be appreciated.
 
I have that's what the manual says in a couple places 60 -84 for water pump housing. Also saw videos were they say the same torque for water pump housing. Trying to find the torque value for the 9/16 lower gear case bolts and trim tab bolts.
 
The proper torque value for small outboard bolts is like a german virgin good and tite. Older aluminum thread tend to strip out if you use torque values. If you strip the threads or break a bolt that is too tight. Just saying be careful with that torque wrench!
 
Factory manual says ----3/8" screws are 280 inch-lbs and 7/16" screw is 31 FT-LBS on a V-4 model.-----We do know this repairing stuff.
 
In all of my 30+ years in the trade, the only bolts that had a definite torque stated were related to the powerhead and PTT a$$embly. I a$$umed that all others were not mentioned EXCEPT by the size of the bolts threaded shank was due to dirty threads, salt corrosion, etc. Through the course of my time with OMC, all bolts that did not a have a specific torque value.... I simply tightened and never had one come loose.

The torque values for the various size threaded shank bolts are as follows. You will need to apply the noted values to your specified bolts ie 1/4x20, 5/16x18, etc.

#6 = 7-10 inch lbs
#8 = 15-22 inch lbs

#10 = 25-35 inch lbs - - - 2-3 foot lbs
#12 = 35-40 inch lbs - - - 3-4 foot lbs
1/4" = 60-80 inch lbs - - - 5-7 foot lbs

5/16"= 120-140- inch lbs - - - 10-12 foot lbs
3/8" == 220-240 inch lbs - - - 18-20 foot lbs
7/16" = 340-360 inch lbs - - - 28-30 foot lbs

Strange!... I double checked for a typo on my part... all was well. I also have a set of 1985/86 OMC service manuals and they state exactly what I entered in post reply #14. Mexican huh? :rolleyes:
 
I would prefer to stay on the low low side of stated torque values, especially for bolts of about 5/16 and smaller. An old aluminum casting that may have been apart and reassembled a couple times.....a little corrosion over time that has eroded metal away....full torque value applied......and now you are having to get the Heli-coil kit out.
 
We can not see , hear or feel your motor.-------The choice of torque values is yours !!-----Some of us can overhaul a 91 V-4 top and bottom without needing to look over a manual.----
 
Hey racerone I saw water pump replacement videos where they said torque lower unit bolts to specs. Just wanted to be sure was going to do it right that's all. Didn't mean to get anything started. Thanks for the info racerone and joe too.
