1995 Mariner 60hp press valves

According to the parts diagram, this 3 cylinder Mariner 60HP 2-stroke usually has a hose which connects two valves in the cylinder head (see attached pic parts 4 and 6). What is this connection for? On my engine, the hose is missing and the valve threads have been plugged.

That is not the cylinder head.-------This hose recirculates oil from the bottom to the top of the engine.------I believe you need to re-install this.----Not sure why anyone would leave that off.-----Is this motor " new to you " if so you might want to check it over.

Closest picture I could find. I could't find a parts diagram showing the actual head. I know that this one shows the block, but from the pic it looks like this is a hose which would run over the top of the head into two externally mounted valves, exactly where I have two brass plugs.

OK, here's a shot of the actual head. The two 'plugs' I'm taking about are at the top and bottom of the head. The top plug has a hexagon head and is brass. The bottom one has an allen key head which has rusted in place. It's the one that sits left and below the lower rusty spark plug. These spark plugs were new 3 months ago, so water is obviously spitting out of somewhere, though it's pretty small and localized. I'll have to take the cowling off at the dock to check, because there I see no leaks when I run it on the flush fitting.

You posted one picture of an intake side of a motor.----Now the other side of your motor.-----I am confused and can offer no further help.

Thanks anyway. The first pic was of the crankcase and block, but looking from the wrong side. Can't find a parts diagram of the head side, which is where I have the issue.

Anyone else know what these two bolts/plugs might be for?

racerone is correct. Picture #1 with the parts explosion, is the intake side of the motor, the hose and fittings are for oils transfer from the lower to the upper bearings.

Picture #2 with the spark plugs is the other side of the block, there is no removable head. The "brass plugs" are access to the water jacket. The top one is probably for the pee stream fitting, if one originally existed. The lower one (just a guess) is for a temperature sender/alarm.

I am guessing but I would think based on the rust on the lower spark plug and the allen plug. The allen plug is some form of steel and it is leaking. The steel in the plug and the aluminum in the block are dis-similar metal and are creating corrosion and hence the leak.

Good luck getting the allen plug out. :(

Yeah, I couldn't see any gasket so I suspected the head might be cast into the block. Thanks for the confirmation. The tell-tale outlet is in another place, so the brass plug is still a bit of a mystery, but your thoughts on water jacket access sound about right. I was just concerned a feeder pipe or circulation hose was missing. Perhaps not. The engine runs well enough. I think I'll wait until the winter break to take another look at getting that rusty allen head out.

Thanks for all the help :)
