1997 3cylinder 25 hp overheats

I have a 1997 Johnson 25 hp 3 cylinder overheats with thermostat in and runs great with it out. I have replaced water pump, thermostat twice and no luck still can’t run with thermostat in the motor. The temp sensor was replaced also … freshwater motor and water flow seems great.....help

are you sure it's overheating or is the sensor possibly wonky?

Well I replace the sensor with same results and swapped cdi also with same issue ...it runs fine with stat out ( third thermostat) but with stat in it runs for 15 min then just dies and after removing stat and letting it cool it starts up and dont kill again ....thanks so much for reply
