I have a 1997 Evinrude 150 Ocean pro and it will start when I take it out, it will run just fine for a good while but then after a while of running it, it will act up the check engine alarm will come on and then will begin to not want to run like it’s supposed to. I can put the throttle up and it will go and then bog down and go then bog down. It will run perfect in idle but will accelerate intermittent. I don’t know where to start! I need help! I’m trying not to take it to the mechanic but might just have to!

The check eng lite on your model indicates a fuel restriction. Change all fuel filters, run on other tank and hose.

Ok do I need to run it on other tank and hose for now on? Because my boat has a tank under the deck. Should I purchase a new hose and primer ball?

You definitely need to cover these possibilities. My '96 150 had an issue where I was running fine up until about 4500RPM then if I gave it more throttle it would bog down. I removed the cone shaped fuel filter and found some junk clinging to the screen. I sprayed it down with some carb cleaner, blew it off with an air compressor and reinstalled. On my next trip I immediately had full throttle up to 5,500RPM.

There are still other parts you might have to check, but pulling the filter and cleaning it is a free thing to check first.

As said likely fuel related. The check engine alarm for my 98 225 ocean pro says it is only for high fuel pressure. I had a little piece of rag somehow was in the tank when it was all brand new and would have the alarm go off occasionally. Stop a bit crank and it would be fine for multiple trips then do it again. It finally do it at the house on the hose and pulled the pickup out and that piece of rag was stuck in the end of it. Never had the issue again.
