I was given a Cape Horn with a Johnson 115 that has been sitting for years. From the start I planned on replacing it with a Yamaha 150, but figured I’d try to get this one going to sell. The gas tank fuel is all yellow so I hooked up an external tank at the engine. I sprayed seafoam creeper in the spark plug holes just to make sure the cylinders didn’t freeze. Prop spun like butter in gear.

When I try to crank it with 50:1 sprayed in the carb hole, it fires right up goes for 3 sec and then stop. Water pump actually worked. After a few tries I opened the screw under each carb hole and at first I thought it was pure 2 cycle oil vs a fuel bowl. But I think I was just a heavy mix. Hind sight I should have drained the bowls and ensured new fuel was being used, but I do wonder if it’s the auto oil supply that’s over mixing. I have no experience with auto oil supply 2 cycles.

When I pump the external tank prime ball to firm and give it one more pump, I do see some fuel seep from what I think is the auto prime/siphon , it’s a little box just to the left of the little red lever you can turn up and down.

Not sure what to do/try next, thought about opening the bowl screws and pump fuel to see if it stays dark oil color like the oil mix is being added to rich. I did spray the carbs good with carb cleaner, but doubt that’s going to help. Any thoughts on what to try next ?

Also what’s the best/sagest way to clean the fuel/oil that comes out of the bowls and pools under the motor. figured I’d plug up the carb holes and spray gunk and lightly spray.

Thanks

Are you pushing the key in and holding it in while cranking it over for cold start?
Yes , without spraying the 50:1 in the carb, it will just spin and assume eventually would flood. I read where that device by the little red lever should click when pushing in the key, but haven’t had two people to put a finger on it and see.

That electric primer is a valve.-----It opens when you push in the key.-----That puts fuel directly into the engine.----The red lever has to be inline with the valve body.------Mix fuel at 50:1 and monitor oil level on the tank before going to straight gas.-----Replace water pump impeller.-----Clean carburetors.
