2008 90hp ELPTO Alarm

I'm looking seriously at a boat with a 90hp Mercury ELPTO. The whole rig looks great but I have a couple of questions.

When the key is turned on, there is no "alarm tone". Seems there should be a tone, just to let you know that at least the buzzer is hooked up.

There is no "trim gauge". Any major problem retrofitting an after market gauge? I'm handy with mech & elec stuff, but wouldn't want to have to do major surgery.

I appreciate your answer in advance.

No self test....

faztbullet,

Thanks for your reply.

I have to admit it give me confidence that my lubrication/overheating system alarms are working when I hear the audible tone. How else do you know you're protected from catastrophic failure?

The older I get, the less some thing make sense.

Gracious from a gringo.

That engine has the bottom driven oil pump which rarely fails, There is no rotational sensors to monitor oil gears , only alarm is oil tank level and overheat.
