Engine was winterized went fishing 4 times used 25 gallons of fuel everything was running fine. We were fishing and than we noticed a low knocking noise so we headed back to the slip which was about 15 minutes away at 20mph and when we got back the noise was louder. We heard the knocking all the way there. The boat ran fine all the way. I checked the oil it was nice and clean. The engine was rocking a little from side to side. Any suggestions because we are pulling out in a couple of days.

Hi,
First thing I would do is pull the plugs and have a look at them. Keep track of which cylinder each one came out of so that, if you find one or more that don't look right or are different than the rest, you can concentrate on checking the cylinder(s) they were in.

There are some very good, inexpensive inspection camera attachments for smart phones that are great for looking inside the cylinders.

Figuring out what happened there is likely going to take more troubleshooting than you are prepared to do at fish camp.

Good luck.

Thank you very much for your reply. I will do that as I am pulling the boat out today. Other people told me to make sure the knocking is located first and not on the lower part of the outboard because it could be the lower unit drive shaft support bushing. I will post my findings.

Did you figure out the cause?
