2011 Honda (BF40D50) 50 HP outboard telltale issues

-Hi all,

First time out this season my Honda outboard was not "peeing" and so I used a piece of weed whacker line to clear the hole. But apparently I ended up disconnecting one of the hoses inside the housing. I'm also confused because the T connector has three places for a hose to connect and I'm just not sure which hose gets connected to what. Maybe one of the connectors is not supposed to be connected to a hose, though that seems unlikely.

Amyway, here's a photo of the T connector in question. The hose that is attached with a clip leads to the telltale hole. The hose on the right side of T is what I reattached myself, though for all I know it's supposed to go on the middle connector. Is there another hose that I'm supposed to connect? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Honda forum.

I've not worked on one of these but I do have some ideas for you.

That 3 way brass connector looks to be item 10 in the link below


As you can see, there is a hose in the center (item 14) that should go to the fuel cooler.

The hose on the left (item 20) is directed to illustration F-8 and looks to attach to the lower case tell-tale nipple. Link below:


The hose on the right of the 3 way brass connector (item 13 in the first link) is directed to illustration E3....cylinder block....along with item 12 in the first link.

They connect to the water joint nipples (Items 9) in the cylinder block water bypass. See link below:


Look in the bottom of the case for the missing hose and hose clip if it's not still connected to the fuel cooler.

Thank you, jgmo. That’s incredibly helpful. I was looking more closely at the photo I posted above and can see the third hose that got disconnected. This hose is short enough it will only connect the brass T in one way, which means no way to connect hoses incorrectly. Anyway, thanks again for your help. This is very useful info.
 
Make sure you put some sort of hose clamp on every one of those connections because if that hose slips off during operation I believe there’s stories of peoples cowlings filling up with water and when it reaches the intake very bad things happen.

Yes, if you look at the illustrations, ALL of those hose ends have the wire clamps on them from factory. That means "someone has been there afore ye" and lost a few.

Which, by the way, is understandable as those little boogers are a pain to work with and will take flight very easily.
