I am looking at a 225, Serial Number BAGJ-1601665 with 650 +/- hours. Fresh water use. I know very little about Hondas. Is this a reliable engine?
 
I have a 2013 BF200 with that I bought with 200 freshwater hrs on it. I’ve put another 650hrs on it in the salt. It’s been super reliable for me. I keep up on maintenance myself, but had dealer do a deeper dive at 600 hrs where they replaced the internal anodes. The only other unanticipated repair was new seals on the main tilt ram. I’m a fan…
 
The only thing that kills these motors is saltwater. If it's fresh water they will run for ever if we'll maintained. I've seen commercial 225s on 10000 hrs without issues

This^^ and the Achilles heel of these motors are O2 sensor and vertical shaft bushings and they are essentially maintenance items, easily serviced.
