25 mercury does not idle

"I have a 25 mercury that will

"I have a 25 mercury that will not idle. Starts instantly with choke and slightly increased throttle. I took carb off and cleaned every jet with carb cleaner. Appears to run good, with increased throttle in neutral. However when throttled down to put into gear it shuts down. i was told that it may be burning to rich?? Also I use fresh gas mix, new hose and bulb. Not sure where to go from here?? any suggestions??"

sounds like idle screw is not set right or may be the mixture screw

do u have a manual

"there is a small ball bearing in the primer pump make shure it is there. 1 1/2 turns out on idle jet to start, check choke primer carefully making shure diaphram is ok and spring and ball are present. fuel pump is also part of the carb make shure rubber diaphram is ok."

"This may sound extreme, but, if the lower crankshaft seals are shot, you will have that type of condition.
only recourse is pull the powerhead & replace the seals.
If you go this route, I would recomend that you replace the crank roller bearings at the same time.
Worn bearings = leaking seals !
take the bearings & seals to a bearing supply company, as they can get you new ones cheaper than the merc dealer can !"
