270 gimbal bearing

How hard is the bearing to get out of the spindle? I am going in to replace the bellows and water neck gasket and hose anyway and inspect the u-joints. I heard you could get the bearing 11013 at auto parts store? I don't see this bearing at some of the marine stores online. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Rob, are you sure that you have a 270 drive? There is no Gimbal type suspension with the AQ series drives, such as the 270.
The AQ series drives are main suspension fork and pivot tube geometry (no Gimbal).
If you have a 270, there will be a PDS (primary drive shaft) that be inside of the flywheel cover (bell housing in the automotive world).
The PDS will have either a single or double bearing on it depending on the engine model.

I'd need to know your AQ # in order to tell you how to change the bearing(s).
The AQ # will tell you engine model, and the following number will be the drive model.

.

Ok, the AQ125 will use a single bearing PDS.
This PDS can be removed without pulling the engine baring no rust or corrosion issues at the drive coupler.
The bearing will be a 6206 open bearing in an electric motor grade.
No BBQ'd pork or fried rice bearings!
Good quality German or even Japanese ONLY.

I'll post a link for you in the morning where I have some AQ series help info.

Rob, here are two links that will take you to a Vault page at the BOC forum.

I put together this thread, but I mainly touch on the V-8 Volvo Pentas.

This one is by a guy named Ryan who touches mostly on the 4 cylinder Volvo Pentas.
He'll show you how the tips of a needle nose pliers are modified to grab the eyelets of the two large snap rings.
Ryan shows a short pair, I prefer to modify the long pliers since the reach into the snap rings is quite a distance.

One key to this is in pre-filling the grease cavity when the PDS and new bearing are placed back into the flywheel cover.
Do your pre-fill until you see grease coming through the ball cage, and do this prior to installing the aft-most seal.
If you can bump the engine over while applying the grease, you'll get a more even exchange and will better purge any air.

Use a good high pressure bearing grease... not necessarily the green marine wheel bearing grease.

Either thread should give you some tips and help.
If not, post back here.
