3.0 timing Q.

Anybody seen a 3.0 that runs good with timing mark on pulley,
With mark before timing plate on cover? It's a ow serial # so suppost to be 2degress after. But motor wants to keep running. When u shut off, adjusted dist. Where motor will fire rite up and shut down, and not try to keep running
But pulley notch is 1/8 " before timing marker plate. Yes I've jumped the w/r,w/g at dist. And disconnect interupt. switch. The 3.0 gear to gear rite???

It's sometimes possible for the damper pulley to slip out of alignment. You check that by establishing TDC with cylinder # 1.

I'd suggest two steps: 1) verify the balance TDC mark using a piston stop and 2) skip the timing shut and set the timing for max advance @ 3000 RPM and then check the engine for 'acceptable behavior'.....many engines are a royal PITA when it comes to the initial timing adjustment when using EST...

also, make sure the engine has time to 'cool down' before shutoff - some operator habits induce problems...

Q, mako timing is still at about 9-8 btdc, am I wrong ? Aren't. OL serial # , supposed to be good at 2 to 1 before and after OL and higher I'm working with a OW# thought it's supposed to be 2 atdc?

I'm, assuming it may very well be. As already said. That rubber. Has slipped on crank harmonic balancer And the set mark has moved (notch)

Don't remember as before, But remembered I used to pin 390 Ford's drag motors. Had the rubber harmonic balancers. the balancer. Pin pulley to hub through rubber, if not it would throw pulley thru hood.
