65 EVINRUDE 40hp Battery/Starter. Fired Up after 15 years!

My old f150 is having a hard time turning the starter motor, I was using the truck to jumpstart. Anyone know cranking amps needed?

The motor fired up today ! Thanks for everyone's help.

-For a 1965 Evinrude 40hp what battery do I need?
-When I pumped gas it started to leak out of front carb hole at top right but then stopped when pump became hard (the thing you squeeze). Is this normal?
-I had a huge bees nest shot out from the lower unit when the engine started. It sat for so long.
-What gas mixture should be used?

The motor started but then had a tough time, I think due to a weak battery.

When it did start it didnt stay running, not sure what it may be. I didnt touch the idle adjustment, maybe it has to be turned out due to some age?

Gas must not leak out when operating the manual pump. Motor does NOT need the battery to run.----Hopefully you ran it on 50:1 mix.

Does it leak if you pump too much? Understood about battery, but if starter motor gets stuck and can’t turn motor over my batttery must be too weak?

Well-----What about the starter.-----Folks burn them out all the time because they refuse to learn how to start / operate / maintain outboard motors.----Just my observation over many years.

Okay. I took the spark plugs out and motor turns over with starter. Put the spark plugs in and the starter gets stuck engaging the flywheel and doesn’t turn over.

tomorrow will clean and inspect starter motor. Can anyone shed light on the correct battery for this thing?

starter motor was fine, but then took it off to clean flywheel and carb. Out of ideas
