65 Evinrude Impeller - didn’t see peeing

Hello all, I have been able to run my 1965 Evinrude 40hp in barrel. I noticed the 2 pee holes have water residue around them but I didn’t see what peeing from them. Is it supposed to be a stream? I am worried I ran motor and didn’t get proper cooling.

What should I do? Pull lower unit and inspect impeller, I planned to do this anyway. I noticed some smoke from exhaust is that normal?

Any tips recommended what is needed to replace? Impeller any gaskets or orings?
 
Part 27 will spew water/exhaust....no pee hole on this old girl. Won't know till you get into it....be cautious. Might be that aforementioned part is broken off.

The " golden rule "------If you do not know how old the impeller is you MUST install a new one.-------Have you tested your hot light ?-----Better yet install an overheat warning buzzer !
 
Okay, awkward I did see some water come out of the large exhaust hole. Still trying to decide if I will sell motor/boat/trailer.

The boat isn't turnkey, I notice when I come back to boat in morning it will start better than trying to start on/off all day. I will order a new impeller, will I know status of other parts once I have water pump taken apart?

Maybe the impeller is in great shape....but it could be original from 1965 haha

Thank you, I have been looking for video on impeller replacement. Does large cover/cowl on the rear of motor have to be removed for one screw for lower unit to drop?

I know inspection cover has a bolt to be removed as well. What am I missing?
 
Must remove that beautiful cover....think it's 6 or so screws. Linkage for shift is typical so CAREFULLY remove one of the fine thread bolts in order to uncouple linkage. If that fine thread bolt seems to bind as your backing it out, try moving linkage up or down ever so slightly. Why? The bolt is dragging on the notch in the shift rod.....and you will bugger up the threads. You would not believe how many of these bolts and couplings I have had to replace because of "master marine mechanics".
 
Here I thought this motor is electric shift with no shift linkages and bolts to take out of connecters.----Have to be careful with electric shift wires as they are a bit spendy.

Thank you so there is connectors for electric shift? I am still unsure what a running motor of this age is worth, can anyone shed light?
