Please see below pictures, what do I have to remove to drop lower unit, can i just pull this part out? Does the boat have to be in forward to slide this unit out?

Electric shift 1965 evinrude 40hp. I also broke off a few screws that hold lower cowl on. Does anyone know what I should replace with?

Feed the cable out through the square hole, then simply pull the inner cover off the cable. Put some oil on the cable's sealing rings first.

are the wires supposed to be fed through the inner case or disconnected once inner cover is off? It looks like there is a metal part behind plate should be pulled out? I am fighting against something unless the flange is supposed to slip over the cover?

Pull it straight off the cable. Hint: Tie something to the end of the cable before removing the lower unit. It will save a lot of grief when reinstalling the lower unit.

Does it have to be in forward? Is it supposed to just drop? I got the hidden bolt out. And still nothing. I don’t want to fight against something, there is deff a gap starting to build so i believe all bolts are out.

i figures out cable thank you

does it take some hitting with a rubber mallet?

It does not have to be in any particular gear. Avoid hitting it with anything. If anything, a gentle pry if you must
