I want to put my 18202 in place of a '92 88 SPL. I need to rebuild the 88 but I have too much on my plate right now. I got this reply from the MarineEngine store,

"Dennis,

I’m sure you can make it work, but I’m also sure it will require some modification for the 1972 outboard to connect with the 1992 control cables. It will require some “backyard engineering” You could check out our free boat repair forum for help and advice.

So I am seeking help here on the forum. Can someone help me find the parts necessary to adapt my older small engine to the controls for a newer bigger engine?

Thanks.

Your location ?----It is possible.----Post picture of your motor.----Does it have a stainless bracket on each side for the cable location ?---Is the 18 electric start ?

Is your 1972 Evinrude 18, a long shaft 20" motor? If it is 15" its not going to work, its just going to suck air into the propeller and not push the boat well. Possibly overheat also.

L & L Vintage Outboard Parts has been extremely helpful to me. Lance spent quite a bit of time finding parts and educating me. I will report back after I receive the parts and begin installation.
