87 Larson with 165 mercruiser alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive

I took the lower unit off
Changed the impeller and pump housing
Put the unit back on ( yes I put it in drive and turned the gear on the lower unit to the right
I’m turning this by hand btw when in drive it turns freely clockwise
In neutral it turns freely both ways
In rev in doesn’t turn clockwise and when turning counter clockwise is feels like it’s binding but it does turn is this normal?

Put the unit back on ( yes I put it in drive and turned the gear on the lower unit to the right

When the lower is installed the shift foot gear is turned counter clockwise (left) and should face straight forward
