All Ficht Up

Just an FYI I'm gonna share. I acquired a very rare 16' Cooper Yachts "Tender" bow rider that was fitted with an '88 Evinrude 140 Looper at birth. From what the previous sole owner said when I bought it, it tended to pop and stall at idle and several shops over the years could not fix it. It sat for 12 years before I brought it home and indeed it lean pops like a beggar.
I was in Kamloops at Robin's Marine 4 years back and mentioned the problem to Robin and he said: Just raise the float level! I only got to working on the boat this summer and after rebuilding all the carbs and setting it all up to spec (See Brandon's Garage on the yubetube for an official OMC video for "Linkage adjustments: 1988 and newer loop V4-V6", about 5 years ago) There is virtually nothing on link & sync out there for these motors but, I found that a while back. Gold it is.
I set the floats about 1/8th inch higher fuel level (float tip 1/8th inch lower from flat with the carb upside down). I'll be darned! That cured it. It sometimes coughs a very small amount when it's cold but, after 15-30 seconds she settles down nice and smooth. I played with the level a tiny bit since for each carb that appeared to be dripping a bit at idle but not much away from 1/8th inch. I have it set to idle with the trim fully down/in at ~600rpm, with zero sneezes. WOT at ~5700 with a 13.25x17 prop. (See links below)
Now all I gotta do is replace the floor, seats, padding, wiring, etc etc etc. Lol. She's a rocket.
Putt putt...
