93 Yamaha sterndrive.

New member
Boat has new everything tune up, rebuilt carb, new water sep. filter.
Ran for 20 min at mid speed then died and no restart.
We've checked everything from inside the gas tank, lines to water filter and fuel pump, all clean.
Fuel pump works fine.
Any suggestions on what to try next.

All fuel lines, filter seperator from tank to carb are clean.
We're thinking power to the fuel pump is the problem as there's no sound when the igitition is turned on yet it runs when powered to a battery
Opinion?
 
i don't think Yamaha made the engine, I am pretty sure they bought them.

follow the wiring from the fuel pump back into the harness...one lead should go to ground and the other should go to the control device....usually along the bottom of the block...
 
You're correct, it's 4.3ltr Chevy engine that Yamaha used with improvements.
Thx, I'll try to follow the wiring g and hopefully fix the problem.
 
some OEMs have been known to use unique switches....if Yamaha did that, there are other parts that are easy to find...if needed...

Ayuh,..... On a Merc, the fuel pump is powered by the outside tiny terminal on the starters solenoid, when the starter is engaged, cranking the motor over,.....
Once the motor starts, it's powered through an oil pressure safety switch, mounted to the block, just above the oil filter boss on the block,....
The fuel pump should never run, with the key "on", but the motor not running,.....
