A few electric starter questions....1976 70 hp

It's kind of funny....in a sick way...

After I finally got my ignition system figured out, parts ordered and installed, I went to test run the engine, and all I could get was a clicking of the solenoid switch....I took the starter semi apart and cleaned it up (lots of dried gunk and corrosion)....anyway I put it back together and it's working fine right now, and the newly repaired ignition system pushes the old pontoon boat along at 23 mph (GPS) @ 5800 WOT...(NICE) but I think it would be best (for me) to get a new one, rebuild the one I have and keep it as a backup (on board) because I've been known to head off to some pretty remote spots.....

Anyway, here's the questions....my drive gear is a 10 tooth...the new starters I've looked at are either 9 or 11 tooth...will I have a problem???
I also looked at the Bosch starter (I have a prestolite) they both have the same cross reference numbers for replacement so I'm guessing any cross referenced numbers will work??? I guess my biggest worry is about the clearance in the meshing of gears between the 9 and 11 tooth vs. my 10 tooth, because my gears mesh really close as it is....
