A little help please

Need some help please. 1981 Mercury 4.5 longtail. Replaced water pump. Went to install lower unit and found that the plastic guide for the driveshaft got displaced. Fished it out and now trying to get it back in place so i can reintall the lower unit. Can't find instructions online. Any ideas?

Is you engine a single cylinder or 2 cylinder Gnat? I don't recognize that piece on a single cylinder model. What is you serial number?

I see it is for a long shaft engine only, which would explain why I've never seen that block before. I haven't seen too many 20" 4-4.5 hp. It appears to be a little rubbing block that supports the driveshaft I guess. I looks like that part snaps into place somehow by the looks of those little hooks. there's probably a little pocket in the casting that it snaps into adjacent to where the driveshaft enters up the midsection.

That's what i thought. But the hoop in the part will not let the seal at the top of the driveshaft pass through it and pushes the oring down. Can't see how it would work.
