AQ170 suddenly has no cooling

Hi there,

After a trip trough shallow water which resulted in a tshirt and a garbage bag around my prop I noticed my temperature reached red (First time ever, it always stayed cool).

The motor temperature gets from cold to red in a couple of minutes on idle so my guess is it's getting practically no cooling whats so ever.

I opened up the fresh water pump house and checked the impeller. It was in a good shape so I greased the impeller and put it back.

Then I disconnected the water inlet, connected a hose and put it in a bucket of water. And yes, the bucket of water got sucked empty, so I do have suction from the pump.

So what now? I was thinking on removing the thermostat to see if it still functions but I wont have any further cleus...

Anyone here that can help?

Cheers,
Royall

That's why I went to thru hull with external wedge strainer many years ago....
Re: your present difficulty.... the "neck", i.e. the point at which the hose thru the transom connects to the drive is a notorious weak spot. Usually pin hole air leaks that prevent full water flow. Increased suction with blocked inlet grills likely was the last straw for a degraded neck.
