Average Time/Cost to Replace Oil Pan (VP 5.7 GXi)

I have a Volvo Penta 5.7L Gxi engine with 570 hours on it (I think it's a 2009 engine).
Just found oil leaking into the bilge. The suspicion is a bad fitting or more likely
a leaking oil pan.

My marina mechanic says the engine needs to be pulled to do the repairs. Make
sense since there is no access.

Including parts, which I estimate at about $300 to $400, how much time would
such as repair take. Assuming standard hourly rates, what would a worst case
repair bill amount to?

Thanks.

Ricardo will know exactly how and how much time it takes if the engine even needs to be pulled. Is there a senser in the pan thats leaking?

Unknown. The engine is in a 26' Osprey Fisherman. The engine bay is built in such a way that access is way limited. Can't really see what is happening.

It is very hard for us to give an estimate over the phone without seeing the boat. I know I have spent more time pulling non engine parts than pulling the engine. On a "normal" R&R most of the time is 4-6 hours. This is engine out and engine in only. Some R&R's are a piece of cake and others are one's that one pulls their hair out if they have any left from an earlier R&R. Sit in the boat and just imagine what has to be moved or taken apart to get that hunk of steel out of that hole down there.

I was told $500 to take out & $500 to reinstall. At standard rates, this seems consistent with 4 to 6 hours each way.

However, the total to replace the oil pan, with parts and "remove & reinstall" was quoted as being up near $3,500.
That sound very high. I'd figure closer to $2000.

Hence I'm just trying to gage the estimate.

Dang, I like to get paid that much. IMO, WAY over priced but some shops don't want to mess the engine R&R's this time of the year, so the price goes up.

I think I'd have to ask what the extra $2500 covers, and I'd be extra skeptical as a new oil pan can be purchased from VP for about $450 ...

That's why I'm looking for a time estimate on how much such a repair would take:

1) remove engine from tight access engine bay
2) Remove, scape, clean and replace oil pan and gasket
3) Reinstall Engine.

5 Hours, 5 hours, and 5 hours? Total of 15 hours @ $125/hr = $1875

So..... Figure $2,000 is reasonable?
