Hello, I have a 2000 200 hp Johnson J200vxsss, Its time for new batteries, what’s better, Starting, Deep cycle,or Dual purpose.

It’s on a 20’ hydrasports cc, basic electronics, small fish finder, vhf, stereo, wash down pump, running lights, that’s about all I use for power.

If they are all wired together, there isn’t one battery for start, and one battery for house (electronics) then I don’t think it makes that big of a difference. Just get good quality, 850CCA batteries.

I would hope the batteries are NOT all wired together? A cranking battery is better for the engine, but the technology continues to change. Some sell batteries that are suppose to fit all applications. As stated 850CCA should be fine. A good quality battery switch is nice in this type boat. Make before break connect is required for the charging system of your motor.

Tight battery/clean connections are critical (at the battery & engine ends of the cables) for this system to work dependably. NO WING NUTS at the battery ends. Some type of terminal for the battery to separate the accessory wires from the battery cables is nice. The battery cables should be by themselves & bolted tight.
