Bendix Gear Will Not Rise to Engage Flywheel on my Johnson 1989 2 stroke 110HP outboard.

I have replaced battery, bendix gear and spring.

Can someone help please?

"Believe it or not, someone else has had this same problem ... and it turned out they had the battery connections backwards, causing the starter motor to spin the wrong direction ... which prevented the Bendix from rising. So ... I have to ask ... are you sure your battery is fully charged ... and connected correctly ... negative to block, positive to starter solenoid?"

I actually now jsut got it working.

I cleaned and lube the shaft and popped the spark plug leads off/on to ensure spark for cranking.

Yes the leads were correct but good question.

"Be carefull with the lube. That's usually what causes the sticking..... lube collects dirt, dirt causes jamming. One drop of oil on that gear goes a long ways."
