First post here and glad this forum exists. I'm trying to figure out a fluttering/dull ticking noise I'm getting on my 2014 BF250A with 600 hours. It's like the playing card we used to attach to our bikes and let the spokes hit it, but a little louder. It's most noticeable around 4300-4900 RPM. No alarms. I have video but don't know how to attach to this post. Things I've done recently for maintenance or trying to figure out the noise (within 3 months): - Valve adjust/check (3 valves were a little loose and adjusted) - Removed cowling and ran at the same RPMs (noise was gone! Or was it still there and just not focused toward the front of the boat? Going to try and find a different cowling to test) - Different ear heights around the transom are louder - Checked timing belt tension (was a little loose. Tightened timing belt tension and noise was reduced by about half - some progress. Maybe the tensioner or one of the idler pulleys are bad and making noise?) - timing belt covers were a little loose when fully tightened down. Looked like there were wear marks on the aluminum from the covers being loose. (Made plastic washers to secure the covers better. tight now without movement by hand) - Service bulletin was performed on this engine for bad block. Block was changed in 2019. - intermediate shaft bushing was replaced - impeller changed - oil change - main fuel filter change - thermostats - HP fuel filter - gear oil change (no water noticed) - OE Honda spark plugs with gaps checked/adjusted - Went 35 miles offshore with a buddy boat. Noise was still there but outboard seemed to run properly. No alarms. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
