"Can anyone tell me the correct way to wire the starter for a 1989 5.7 L 350 V-8. I tried using the wire diagram for the Mercrusier Shop Manual but it not clear. I also have a Selco Manual and that the source of my confusion. Seloc has 2 diagrams for my engine. 1st. is with out fuse 2nd has a 90 amp fuse. The starter I purchased form Basic Power does not have a fuse, unless it internal. It has 2 large copper colored post & 2 smaller post. My boat wire harness has 3 large RED wires, (1. starting battery, 2. circuit breaker, & 3. second battery.) A RED-YELLOW wire from solenoid. And, ORANGE from the alternator. The orange wire should go to the 90 amp fuse.
If I dont have a fuse where should I attach the ORANGE wire???"

"ATTACH THE ORANGE WIRE (F

"ATTACH THE ORANGE WIRE (FROM THE ALTERNATOR) TO THE STUD ON THE STARTER SOLENOID THAT YOU CONNECT THE RED BATTERY CABLE.

Looking at the studded end of the solenoid, the small stud on the right side gets the yellow w/red stripe from the slave solenoid. The strapping coming out of the starter should be connected to one stud already. The empty large stud gets the two red and the orange wires."
