I have a OMC 6gallon portable reserve fuel tank this
OMC portable 6 gallon.jpg

she has developed a leak when fuel get sloshed around not that bad when half filled but prefer to not have any seepage from the fuel level sender.

here's the orginale gasket note how thin it is. also note how dirty it is. the gasket is actuely unbroken unflattened an basicely intack.

I've tryed to replace this before an could only find a thick gasket this same thick gasket here at marine engine parts.
amazon incorrect gasket for 6gallon portable.png
obviously isn't the correct thickness.

so I gave up on a replacement. attempted to clean orginale an smear gasket maker underneth an ontop of orginale applied liberaly let dry same old crape differnt day still leaked.an yes I cleaned w/ isoproply alcohol prior to gluing.

maybe my next glue job I shouldn't include the orginale?

I have a small baby syringe I can make a small bead around the senders housing, let dry a few days an reassemble?

the net bot seams to think that my orginale gasket is actuely a fuel pump gasket, it's not this duratank came w/ a brand new engine purchase back in 1997 an has never had a problem being a reserve tank.

please advise an thanks these duratanks are like $200. an I want this tank to not leak.

DuraTank Essence 6 Gallon Fuel Tank (Part #5008623
Looking for gasket/seal parts for the Johnson/Evinrude DuraTank 6-Gallon Fuel Tank (Part #5008623). I wasn't able to find an exact OEM gasket kit specifically listed for that part number, but here are the closest matches for Johnson/Evinrude fuel tank gaskets and rebuild kits:

If the holes and the cutouts on the new gasket match the housing, why won't it work?

Looks like there may be some cracking in the housing gasket surfaces - hard to tell from the pic. The other thing to look for is warping, especially on the housing....

I'm thinking the main issue is the tank surface is no longer flat. Needs a metal plate behind it to help but don't see a way to get one in place

I should have spent the $20. on a thick rubber gasket.(at least now I have the correct Part#) I was duped by permatex when they advertise form a gasket this is missinformation.
OMC 6 gallon sender gasket maker.jpg
I assumed this was gasket maker or maybe I haven't waited long enough for the full cure?

additionaly I could have caked it on to thick my beed on the senders housing was 1/8" the layer on the tank was half that thickness.
after applying let get tacky for 15 minutes then snugged screws finger tight w/ a tiny bit of squeeze out then came back 2 hours later for little more snugging then again 5 hours later for final snug.
it's been 20 hours an this stuff shows no sign of drying.
duratank form a gasket didnt dry.jpg

in prematex fine print they say smear a light layer over both sides of the gasket. now I could understand this reasoning if I was installing example transmision pan basicely using prematex to hold gasket in place but not nessary w/ this marine tank.

I do have a vintage OMC from 1990 I stopped using it bc of the pin hole, which I could seal w/ JB epoxy. however it appears dirty inside not rusty but dirty wonder if I can presurre wash that flith? ortime for the scrape yard? thanks
