early 40's run about starter identification and suppliers

i have a client with a 1940's runabout. it has a straight 6 cyl engine, i was told chrysler, but not confirmed. the starter is on the front ( i think) of the motor. the alternator sits above it. i am in no ways a chris craft mechanic but in my field, you have to dabble with everything.
so, the starter has a tag on it that reads mcl 6004.
i think tit was made by autolite
can anyone point me in the right direction? is this a clockwise or counterclockwise rotation motor?

might want to check over at oldmarineengine.com...the knowledge base over there covers the 1940's equipment with much more depth than over here...

FWIW, the 'alternator' is much more likely to be a generator...unless it has been converted.
