Engine dies when shifted into gear

79 model 55hp johnson. Runs great if you can keep from dying when you put it in gear. compression is 120psi on top cyl. and 115psi on bottom. will idle fine. has fixed low, middle and high idle. type IV carbs.

My manual doesnt tell what the compression is supposed to be or how to adjust the carbs.

Try bumping up the idle speed with the stop screw. ---It may just be idling too slow.
