I have a 71 Johnson 125 hp. I rebuild the engine over the winter because of a broken ring. I started it up about a month in a bucket, and put the boat in last weekend. From the launch ramp to my house, 30 min ride. It ran perfect, kept it below 3000 rpm. Next day I went out. Rode around for hour and a half. Below 3000, and would idle around a little and back up to 3000. Ran good. Was smooth quiet. As I was going to dock it stalled. And will not start. It will fire once and the start kicks out of the way. I checked compression, worried a ring broke again. All cylinders are at 100psi. I have spark at all cylinders. I took the carbs off and soaked them over night and really blew them out. Still same thing. I try a different CDI, no change. I did find a wire chafed through on the stator, from the flywheel. I had a new stator I put that in. Also when it got dark I could see arcing under the flywheel from the cool wire. Changed the coil wire that went way. But still only fires once. Plug are gets wet. Even try spraying fuel down the carb, nothing. Spark jumps 1/2” gap. I checked sensor gap and set that, it was little close. I’m out of idea.
