Flywheel Cover on 1985 Evinrude 15hp E15RCOB

My 1985 15hp Evinrude doesn't have a flywheel cover on it like my 1968 3hp Johnson has. I noticed when removing the flywheel on the 15hp that it was much dirtier underneath than when I removed the flywheel on the 3hp.

Would it do any harm for me to get a flywheel cover and pop it on when I close the 15hp back up or would it throw off the balance?

Not so sure it would even fit your 15hp. Have you tried your 3hp cover on it? Whatever, I fail so see the need for it. There must be some other reason for the dirt being there. After all, this ain't no lawnmower.

This motor was new to me last fall. It was laying on the ground when I bought it so I assume it spent quite some time there before I bought it, so I expect that's where the dirt came from. I don't know if the cover from my 3hp would fit or not, I was mostly asking to see if I would cause any harm by putting a cover on.

Fit the one from say a 1975 model 25 HP.------Great decorative piece .-----Will make your boat appear to go faster too.

I guess it's a good sign that a 1975 25hp flywheel cover is the same part number as my 1968 3hp flywheel cover.

Actually, no they aren't the same part #. Somehow I got my wires crossed.
